When cruising to warm weather destinations, we get balcony staterooms. Not only do I love going out in the morning to see the sunrise or in the evening to see the sunset, I enjoy taking in the scenery as we pull into a new port.

Once we got into port and off the ship, we found a water taxi that would take us out to see these rock formations. Hubby wasn’t able to go with us because he had to follow doctor’s orders. Instead, he did some shopping in port and then headed back to the ship for some rest and relaxation while the kids and I went on our excursion.
The guide was informative and very entertaining. Then, after about 45 minutes of learning about Cabo and seeing the fish through the glass in the bottom of our boat, he dropped us off at a local beach for a couple hours of sun, sand and surf.

Port stops on a cruise aren’t long. Typically 6-8 hours. While I understand that first impressions aren’t always indicative of how a place really is, I have to say that our first impression of Cabo wasn’t great. The vendors were over the top. It was extremely difficult to enjoy our time at the beach because they were trying to sell us something every 1-3 minutes. It was the beginning of spring break, which probably didn’t help.
Later, while waiting on our water taxi to return to take us back to port, we were approached by a man who seemed to be helping people get boat taxi’s back to port. He began telling me how the taxis promise to return by a certain time but either come back late or don’t return at all. He also claimed to live in Chicago, but came home to Cabo in the winters. His story continued to grow telling me about the boats he owned. After several minutes of trying to make me believe that our water taxi wasn’t going to return on time, he went to help a woman get in a water taxi. She gave him some money just as another water taxi pulled up. The man in the water track jumped off and chased him away. It was then very clear that the guy was trying to hustle visitors by making them believe they would not get back to the ship on time and would then take their money and put them on a different water taxi, even though they had already paid for the original taxi.
Our water taxi did return on time and we were dropped off back at port. in plenty of time.
Because we didn’t arrive in Cabo until afternoon, we left port after dark.

I was much more impressed with Cabo at night. Very pretty!!!
Although there were certainly things about Cabo we didn’t enjoy, it wasn’t all bad. However, if we should ever return, I think we’ll try out a land excursion next time.
