Mazatlan

This was Port # 2.

Our plan for the day included getting a taxi to the Malecon for sight seeing and shopping.

Getting a taxi was not a problem. For a matter of fact, it’s always been easy to get a taxi at the cruise port, regardless of the port. They are lined up ready and willing to take passengers to their destinations. Our driver shared information about Mazatlan with us including the cost of living there. He was also happy to offer his services as our personal driver for a longer tour of the city and clearly communicated how good of a deal he was willing to give us. However, we were more interested in walking the Malecon at our leisure and then heading back to the ship.

When exploring on your own, you come across some interesting things.

I very much enjoyed the statues.

We headed back to port and did some shopping at the Mercado before heading back to the ship.

In Mazatlan, the cruise ships dock in the same area as the cargo ships. A requirement is that cruise passengers be transported away from the ship. Since this is primarily a cargo port, it is for the safety of all cruise passengers so they have trams lined up to get everyone from and back to the ship.

We should have or could have gone further down the Malecon to an area that had more restaurants and shopping. However, while the weather was beautiful, it was getting a little warm for at least one person in our family. Plus, hubby was still recovering from his surgery and cutting our visit short was a better plan than trying to push on.

We definitely enjoyed Mazatlan and would not be opposed to visiting another time to explore more of this beautiful city.
