Many invest in an RV and drive across the country or park it somewhere in the south during winter months? This is something we discussed doing in retirement but have given up that idea.

Some spend their retirement years traveling around the world. There are certainly a lot of places I would like to visit.

Others are happy to stay put where they can spend time with family and friends. Love my family and friends, but . . . . .

I like to travel, ok!!

Then there are those who find themselves retiring with kids still home.

This was something we discussed when we decided to adopt 19 years ago. Retirement with minor children at home creates a different set of challenges that we have to consider in retirement.

We are far from the only people approaching retirement with kids in tow. Whether it’s through adoption, biology, grandparents raising grandkids, etc. many find themselves in a similar situation.

Does this mean working longer? Possibly.

Does this mean cutting back? Yes!

Does this mean less travel? I hope not!!!!

Does this mean considering somewhere that is less expensive? Possibly.

Fortunately, we have options and we’re exploring all those options. Hubby would like to retire in the next 2 1/2 – 3 years and for that to happen, we need to have a plan in place that will allow us to live comfortably with kids at home. Hopefully it will include cruising from time to time as well.

I know that we’ll get it all figured out and do what works best for our family. In the meantime, life goes on and it’s never boring in the World of Weeks.
