It’s the Holiday Season

Okay, I know for many, this title may make you think that I’m referring to Christmas. But Halloween marks the start of the Holiday Season in the World of Weeks.

One of my kids LOVES to have everything decorated and quite honestly, we’re a bit behind with our Halloween decor. Every year we try to add one or two new display items to our growing collection, and we did add one this year, but everything else is still sitting in boxes in the garage. At least the box has been pulled off the shelf. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll finish putting everything out.

I have to admit that I’m not much for Halloween decorating. Not that I don’t enjoy seeing yards all decked out with ghosts and goblins, but if I’m being completely honest (said in my best Simon Cowell voice) our neighborhood sucks at the Halloween thing. It’s not a big neighborhood, maybe 50-60 homes, but it seems like only about 20 put on their porch lights for trick-or-treating and some of them just set the bowl on candy on the porch.

Maybe the reason it’s so disappointing for me is that my memories of Halloween as a kid were very different. I grew up in a small town, and it was rare that a porch light wasn’t on. We only had a couple hours to visit as many houses as we could and there was no way to get to all of them in that amount of time, but we could easily go door to door to door. In our neighborhood it’s rare to find a house with the light on. I would take the kids out and we walk to the neighbors and then walk by 3 or 4 houses getting to the next one with the light on.

Last year, we headed to a friend’s neighborhood which was much more fun and this year we’re trying out another friend’s neighborhood. Spending hours decorating our house for a handful of trick-or-treaters seems a big like a waste of time. Our kids enjoy having the yard decorated though.

Once we have everything displayed, I’ll take some pics and share them here.

In the meantime, here’s a jack-o-lantern for your viewing pleasure.

Happy Holidays!!!
