Winter, Spring, Summer, Winter

It’s bi-polar season here. Winter fled out the back door and spring quickly turned to summer before winter gave a nod and said, “Not so fast!” Storms moved through – thunder, lightening and A LOT of rain (we needed the rain in our drought stricken area). When we woke up the next morning, there was snow on the ground and the wind was wicked. Temperatures didn’t get above freezing all day and we continued to stay below freezing again today with wind chills below zero. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to us!!

But just around the corner – specifically tomorrow – our temperatures will be back into the 50’s and over the next 2-3 days will climb into the 70’s. Winter, spring, and summer all in one week.

Fortunately, we did some garden clean up during warmer days and my little seedlings are tucked away snug and warm in our little living room green house.

Soon, the snow will become a faint memory, and I will be adding more compost to the garden beds. Seeds will be planted – lettuce, radishes, spinach, kale, squash and cucumbers – and more preparation will take place as we get ready to plant our onions, tomatoes, and peppers.

Soon the berries will begin to emerge, and we will be able to finally cut our asparagus (which we planted two years ago).

As I have said before, I am one of those weird people who enjoys winter. Specifically, I enjoy the change of seasons – regardless of how crazy those changes may be. I am looking forward to consistently warmer weather and getting my hands dirty in the garden. So, bring on spring or summer, whichever season decides to show up first.
