Technically I’m continuing the canning and freezing, but this is the largest harvest of the year so far.
As I looked at all the produce sitting on my counter, the jars of pickles and relish I’ve already canned and all the bags of shredded zucchini in the freezer, I began to add up our savings. Yes, there is a cost in the time, energy, and supplies we have put into growing all of this, but we’ve already picked, canned and eaten around $200 worth of produce in addition to what was picked today. The season isn’t over, so it will continue to add up. I’m so happy we are traveling down the path of a more self-sufficient lifestyle. It’s a good feeling. A really good feeling.
