It’s Time to Get the Garden Started

While still trying to think of the perfect RV name, I’m also thinking about our garden this year.  I have our tomatoes and peppers started and they are doing well.  The girls also started some herb and flower seedlings, which are also doing well.  Today I ordered two mini sweet plum trees . . .

four blueberry bushes . . .

and six raspberry bushes . . .

I wanted to put in some apple trees, but as I researched them more, I decided it would be better to wait until this fall.

Over the last couple of years, we’ve removed 4 trees from our property for one reason or another.  We also cut down 5 forsythia bushes to make room for RV parking.  I want to replace all those plants in our yard and replacing them with something that produces food for our family is a huge bonus.

Now I’m getting really excited and anxious to start planting.

This weekend I’m going to plant some root vegetables.  I tried to plant some last fall, but put them in too late.  Hopefully, they will produce for me this time.

I’m also going to spend some time laying out the garden and deciding exacting where the plum trees will be planted and where I’m going to put the blueberry and raspberry bushes.

With homesteading sitting quietly on the back burner, it’s more important than ever for us to grow where we are planted.  We need to grow enough food to preserve for the winter and I really want to pack the RV with fresh garden produce to take on our camping trips.

It’s time to get the garden started!!!!!
