I could apologize for bugging everyone about the service project Lili and I are going to be involved in this summer, but I won’t. We have three more weeks (July 2nd) to collect donations toward our bunkbed project in Guatemala. It’s very important to us that we provide as many bunkbeds as possible to families in need and there are A LOT of families who need a safe and comfortable place to sleep.

I understand that it’s easy to read a post and then dismiss it. For some of you, donations go toward other causes. For others, donations go toward your morning coffee. BTW, Guatemala is one of the main producers of coffee and you may be drinking Guatemala coffee right now.

To help you better understand the need in Guatemala . . . .

• Of all the countries in the world, Guatemala is ranked #10 for having the highest poverty rate. 59.30% live in poverty. In the U.S. the poverty rate is 12.8%. https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/poverty-rate-by-country

• Poverty income is approximately $2.00 per day. Extreme poverty is approximately $1.00 per day. This means that 59.30% are living on $1.00 – $2.00 per day. Many are agricultural workers making $3.00 – $4.00 per day when there is work. Unfortunately, there isn’t always work.

• 50% of Guatemalans have inadequate housing.

• Between 1,000,000 and 1,500,000 live in homes made from scavenged materials.

If just 10 people would donate $25, which is less than 5 specialty coffees from most coffee shops, we could provide one bunkbed and bedding to a family/children who don’t have a comfortable place to sleep.
