It’s that time in life when one makes the decision to leave behind all their years of employment for the more relaxing life of retirement.
Obviously, with kids still at home, the relaxing life of retirement doesn’t truly exist. However, no longer working for a company and following their clock does exist and that is exactly what hubby is doing. He is leaving the life of living by someone else’s schedule and he’s creating his own.
July 1st will mark his final day of employment and July 2nd will mark his first day of self-employment. Yes, that’s correct. We have started our own business that we hope to run for the first few years of hubby’s “official” retirement. A way to bring in a little extra money to supplement our retirement income. A little extra money to pay for the necessities like food, utilities, clothing and cruises. 😉
DW Clarity Group, LLC is the name of our company. Our focus is training and development, primarily doing contract training with occasional workshops and public speaking engagements.
No, I won’t be doing the training, workshops or public speaking. With 11 years of training experience, that is hubby’s expertise. Instead, I’ll be handling the behind-the-scenes work – taking care of the books, maybe some scheduling of classes, making necessary travel plans and other administrative duties. This is more my expertise having done this in a previous life.
We are still in process of getting all of the details nailed down- website still needs to be completed, contacts made, additional tests done, etc., but our hope is that sometime in the next two months, hubby will be rested from his 45+ years in the work force and ready to head back into the classroom. Instead of the 40 hour+ work week, he’ll be working, about 10-20 hours per week (some weeks more and some weeks less), setting his own schedule and doing something he really enjoys.
I have no doubt there will be some ups and downs along the way, but we welcome the next phase of life.
